As an International Shipping Classification and Certification Body, RINA provides specialist services to:

In the railway and collective transport sector, RINA has specialist skills as regards the main subsystems comprising a transport network - Rolling Stock and Vehicles, Traffic Signalling and Control, Telecommunications, Electrification, Infrastructure and the issues connected with the Operation, Safety and Maintenance of the networks and means of transport.
In the marine / port (industrial, commercial and tourist) sector, RINA acts as a technical / economic / legal reference point for shipping operators (ship owners, terminal operators, port authorities, ship-finance companies) providing market analysis, planning, feasibility, organisation, technical advisory, due diligence, debt assessment and project financing services.

Transport, Ports and Logistics
RINA, which has operated since 1861 as an International Shipping Classification and Industrial Certification Body, provides specialist services to:
- Transport operators and Managers of railway, metro, tram and bus networks
- Makers of the relative systems and vehicles
- Logistic carriers, Operators and Terminal operators at ports and interports.
In the railway and collective transport sector, RINA has specialist skills as regards the main subsystems comprising a transport network - Rolling Stock and Vehicles, Traffic Signalling and Control, Telecommunications, Electrification, Infrastructure and the issues connected with the Operation, Safety and Maintenance of the networks and means of transport. Specialist technical services Rail sector RINA is authorised to issue various types of Certifications and Approvals, certifying compliance with applicable standards and contractual documents; for this purpose, RINA fields a network of qualified laboratories for the performing tests on the components used in the various subsystems.
- Conformity Audits: functional and safety audits by means of Project Reviews, Laboratory and Site Tests and Construction Surveillance of civil engineering work, systems and components, in reference to:
- Directive 96/48/EC concerning high-speed interoperable lines,
- Directive 2001/16/EC concerning conventional interoperable lines,
- National and international regulations concerning railway lines and vehicles and local transport systems.
- Support to approval: management of the process for obtaining approval to circulate on networks: from negotiating requirements with the authorities to supervising tests and auditing the requested documents.
- Inspection and Testing: functional and safety audits on material for railway and local transport applications; damage adjustment for railway wagons and transported goods.
- Control of manufacture/realisation: technical and management support in the rolling stock and railway infrastructure construction and for local transport.
Logistics Sector
In the field of logistics, RINA has specialist skills enabling it to draw up:
- Feasibility studies, from processing the evolution scenarios of international logistic flows to assessing the impact on the development potential of specific logistic centres.
- Analysis of organisational redevelopment of ports and logistic terminals.
Local Public Transport Sector
RINA has recently developed new particular certification schemes concerning issues of particular interest to collective transport operators:
- Certification of Maintenance Services according to the Rules developed in conjunction with AIMAN (Italian Maintenance Association);
- Service Quality Certification.
Accreditations RINA has been Notified by the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport to perform conformity audits on subsystems and components both in the high-speed rail sector (O.J. n° 195 of 23rd August 2007, pursuant to Legislative Decree 299/01 implementing European Directive 96/48/EC), and on conventional networks (O.J. n° 169 of 22nd July 2005, pursuant to Legislative Decree 268/04 implementing European Directive 2001/16/EC), for the following subsystems:

- control-command and signalling

- maintenance
